This is the beginning of the series #buildingwalls. Follow the hashtag to find out the different bricks that are needed in our walls.
In response to a political situation, a noted public figure recently commented that building walls “is not Christian”. If Nehemiah were around, he would have disagreed on that point (regardless of his political views). After all, Nehemiah is probably the Bible’s most famous wall-builder.
But why would Nehemiah want to build walls? Why should we build walls?
“And they said to me, “The remnant there in the province who had survived the exile is in great trouble and shame. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates are destroyed by fire.” Nehemiah 1:3 (ESV)
Without our walls, we will lose our identity. Instead of growing, we will always be in maintenance mode. Without walls, our boundaries are lost in the process of decay and ruin. Our ability to resist sin will be greatly diminished.

The Spiritual Function of Walls
1. They define space
It is the walls in your life that define it. Walls set the atmosphere in your space and your home
2. They limit access
Walls keep out the things you want to keep out
3. They provide protection
Protection from the elements, even demonic elements
4. They declare ownership
Having spiritual walls show who you belong to.
The good news is that everyone can build a wall – one brick at a time. If you can carry a brick, you can build a wall!
