Armed with a promise. My past doesn’t determine where I am going. What is happening right now is not just life, it is God’s design.

David chose a slingshot and five stones in exchange for Saul’s armour. We know the end of the story. He wins. But David was not the underdog like how we always imagine him to be, as slingers were known to be skilled men with power and accuracy. They can take down the enemy from a distance with great accuracy. God used what David knew, the ways in which he was trained in. It was different than Saul, but powerful and effective nonetheless.

Like David, we must prepare ourselves, and must not despise the season and training the Lord brings us through, because there is a divine purpose if we keep trusting and submitted to His hand. His training programme is always on target.

David went on to win more wars. This time against armies and nations. Goliath didn’t seem so difficult anymore. Armies, he had defeated more than he could remember. Complacent, David started a battle with the Ammonites and while the battle was still in action decided to sit out. It is one thing to start strong, but it is another to continue strong. How did that pen out? Adultery, murder and an illegitimate child.

We are not perfect and we will make mistakes. But it is our response that makes all the difference.

Saul, when confronted by the prophet Samuel about his disobedience toward God, justified his actions and was more concerned about pleasing the people and saving his reputation than pleasing God. David on the other hand, fell on his face in repentance at the word delivered by the prophet Nathan.

So what does it take to continue strong? It takes quick obedience. No lingering around like Lot, no sitting around like David, and no staying like the king who only smote the arrows three times.

Victory is ours. We must continue on strong and unwavering! Run from evil without hesitation, fight the battles till the end and smite your enemies till they surrender. Don’t stop! Our obedience in the physical world translates into victory in the spirit. Hear the Commanders voice, obey quickly and let’s claim our victory.
