Goodbye fear, I have no room for you

Do you remember that boogie man in your closet?

How about that recurring nightmare about flunking the O levels?

Or that dodgy man who always appears to be on the same route as your daily commute?

Mentioning those characters of yesteryear, a wave of fear and hysteria washes over you. Fear is that. It’s all too familiar, a little too close for comfort. The voice of fear is a tormentor that ruins the best of times — even in reality when all’s right with the world and fine and dandy.

Perhaps it seems there’s nothing wrong to entertain that voice of fear as a human, but in Revelations 21:7-8, the cowardly is put alongside a blood thirsty murderer. Surely, there must have been a mistake in that? Not if you see it as how God were to see it: Cowardice is as despicable as murder because the murder is of ourselves. Psychologically, we set ourselves up when we fear. Or at the very least, we handicap ourselves. We enrol in a self-fulfilling prophecy, which becomes reality as we meditate on the voice of fear. Are you really living if you are at fear’s mercy? Slowly but surely, we kill our spiritual man.

Now, let’s not give fear any credit (Matthew 25:14-25). Don’t even patronise it. Instead, look to God, our Father, who knows how to take care of His children. For every mountain and every valley life is made up of, God has positive intentions towards you. As we trust in His nature, we grow in our love to match His perfect love for us, which casts out all fear (1 John 4:18). We know this, but it’s time to internalise it. This is the backbone of faith.

If there’s a boogey man in my closest, could I have paralysed him instead?

If there’s a nightmare, could I have cast my worries on God instead?

If there’s a dodgy man lurking in the corner, could I have allowed God to fend for me instead?

Get cozy with the voice of faith, starting with these scriptures that put a voice to God’s intentions towards us. Stark and clear, there is no room for misunderstandings with these.

“Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
Behold, all those who were incensed against you
Shall be ashamed and disgraced;
They shall be as nothing,
And those who strive with you shall perish.”
Isaiah 41:10 – 11

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.”
Isaiah 43:2

“Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid; do not be afraid of him,’ says the Lord, ‘for I am with you, to save you and deliver you from his hand.”
Jeremiah 42:11

Don’t frown it. Faith it! Claim God’s promises. Get a hold of heaven today with a refreshed voice of faith — not the voice of needs or distressed fear. Even command God to move!
